 • Phil Wheddon, an assistant coach and the goalkeeper
   coach for the United  States Women's National Soccer 
   Team, is Syracuse University's new women's  soccer 
   coach.
 • 2 time Olympic Gold Medal winner 2004 and 2008 
 • Wheddon became the national team's goalkeeper
   coach in 2002 and helped lead the team to a third place
   finish in the 2003 World Cup. A year later, his  team won
   the gold medal in Athens, defeating Brazil, 2-1. 
 • In 2005, Wheddon became the assistant coach and  
   goalkeeper coach with the U.S. Men's National Team,
   which won the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup and competed 
i  in the 2006 World Cup. He returned to his position with 
   the women's national team and helped the squad to a 
   third place finish in the  2007 World Cup. 
 • Wheddon began his collegiate coaching career at 
   Southern Connecticut State University in 1997. He was 
   an assistant and goalkeeper coach  for the men’s and
   women's teams through 2000, including the men’s 1998
   and 1999  Division II National Championship seasons. 
 • In 2000, he served as the goalkeeper coach for  the 
   NY/NJ MetroStars of MLS, which won the 2000 Eastern
   Division Title, before  becoming an assistant coach for
   the Boston Breakers of the WUSA in 2001 and  2002.
 • A native of a native of Basingstoke, England,  Wheddon
   earned a Higher National Degree in business  and finance
   with a sports coaching minor from Crewe and Alsager
   College in  Crewe, England in 1989.

•Scott Calabrese was named the first ever head coach of 
ETSU's men's soccer program on January 12, 2007. 
•Calabrese, a former professional soccer player who has 
coached at the collegiate and pro levels, will direct a program
that begins to compete at the club level in the fall of 2007, 
before entering Atlantic Sun Conference competition as a  
program during the 2008 season. 
•Calabrese has spent the past four seasons helping guide the
Clemson Tigers to the top of  the national rankings, including a
trip to the NCAA Final Four in 2005 and a No. 1 national ranking
midway through the season. With duties that range from 
recruiting to player development to general internal operations,
Calabrese also directed the Clemson Soccer Academy, which 
plays host to over 1,800 children each summer. 
•Prior to his time at Clemson, Calabrese coached on the 
college level at the University of North Carolina from 2000-
2001, helping the Tar Heels to an Atlantic Coast Conference 
championship and Elite Eight appearance in 2000, and then 
to a national championship in 2001. He also spent two 
seasons in the Atlantic Sun Conference, assisting at Stetson 
University from 1998-99. At the collegiate level, Calabrese
 has a career record of 89-33-10 including two 20 wins 
seasons. 
•On the professional level, Calabrese was an assistant coach 
for the Carolina Courage of the WUSA, working to advance that 
franchise from “worst to first” and winning a 2002 WUSA title. 
He played professionally for the Rhode Island Sting Rays from 
1995 to 1997, as well as the South Carolina Shamrocks in 
1999.
